The fast food chain has announced a temporary removal from its menu due to "incredible" demand.

McDonald's has not revealed when the popular limited-edition burger will make its return to the menu.

They tweeted: “Well, that escalated quickly. Your love for the limited edition Chicken Big Mac knew no bounds and it’s sold out almost everywhere.

“Thank you for lovin’ it even more than we thought you would, it’ll be back soon".

Fans have taken to Twitter to vent their outrage.

One customer responded: “Back soon? Are you serious, just make it permanent!!!! It was the best thing I’ve ever eaten at McDonald’s!”

Another commented, saying they are "devastated" as they are yet to try the sandwich.

A spokesperson from McDonald’s UK&I, said: “We have been delighted by our customers’ reaction to the limited-edition Chicken Big Mac.

“The demand has been incredible and we simply cannot keep up.

“As such we’ve made the decision to pause the promotion, let our restaurant teams and suppliers restock and get ready for its return in a few weeks.

“We’ll keep customers informed about its return through the usual channels. Thank you to everyone who has made this our most popular launch ever.

“We can’t wait to bring it back for even more customers to enjoy".

The burger itself costs £4.09, but it can be bought as part of a medium meal for £5.59 with chips and a drink, or customers can go large for £5.99.
