Anti-House of Lords campaigners have stormed the historic parliamentary chamber to stage a protest calling for its abolishment.
The left-wing activists from protest group Assemble clambered over barriers during a tour of Parliament.
They then proceed to reveal a banner that said: “Replace the Lords.”
According to the group, some of its members were detained by the Metropolitan Police but were later released.

Royal, one of the activists, was quoted as saying: “After taking part in the creation of the People’s Charter, I am inspired to share the idea with the people.
“They hold the power, not the Lords.”
Assembly’s ‘People’s Charter’ has been branded “a new democratic mandate” for Britain by the group.

The House of Lords must be abolished and replaced with a permanent citizens’ assembly, the group say.
A spokesman for the group said: “This is not a protest against the monarchy.
“The King has a symbolic role in Government, but the Lords have real power, and they’re corrupt as hell.
“It’s time to replace the with a fair and democratic citizens’ assembly.”

The Assemble movement also includes groups like Just Stop Oil, Take Back Power and Youth Demand.
It follows another radical protest earlier in the month where four people were arrested for smothering apple crumble and custard over a glass case containing the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London.
The activists identified themselves as members of Take Back Power.
During the protest, they unfurled a sign saying: “Democracy has crumbled - tac the rich.”
The group said it was a new, nonviolent civil-resistance organisation which wants the UK Government to establish a “permanent citizen’s assembly - a House of the People, which has the power to tax extreme wealth and fix Britain.”
