Pressure is now mounting on the authorities to include the capital in the national investigation into the scandal

After a fresh investigation revealed new details of grooming gangs operating in London, GB News found some shocking examples of sexual abuse in the capital.

Much of the focus of the grooming gangs scandal has been on pockets of the North of England and the Midlands, stretching from Rochdale to Rotherham and Blackpool to Birmingham.

However, there have been at least two high-profile cases in London, with the first being recorded in the early 2010s.

And pressure is now mounting on the authorities to include the capital in the national investigation into the scandal.

Redbridge

Naeem Ahmed, Nabeel Ahmed and Hassan Raza were all convicted of sexual offences back in 2013.

The Ahmeds were convicted on charges of rape, serving 14 years and eight years respectively.

Meanwhile, Raza receiving a two-year sentence for one count of sexual assault.

The three men targeted a woman who was visibly upset following an argument with a friend.

Detective Sergeant John O'Brien said: "Nabeel Ahmed chose this woman because she was vulnerable.

"Having befriended her, and convinced her he would help her, he instead took her to his friends and they all sexually abused her.

"The victim showed great bravery in reporting the offences to the police, and even greater courage in giving evidence.

"While no sentence could ever undo her suffering, I sincerely hope today's result will enable the victim to begin rebuilding her life.

"I urge all victims of rape to report the matter to the police, who have specially trained officers ready to provide them with the sensitive support that they need."

Newham

A second major incident occurred in Newham in 2017.

Four teenage girls reported being raped by men who had been operating near the McDonald's in Stratford.

At least 30 potential victims were identified as part of an investigation.

The probe, known as Operation Grandbye, was launched in response with six arrests.

However, no charges were forthcoming following the investigation.

The girls were aged between 13 and 15 during the horrific incident.

Detective Inspector Laura Hillier said at the time: “They had all been met by males at the McDonald’s on the Broadway in Stratford and been taken to different places where they were sexually assaulted."

“We think the scale of it is wider than initially thought – the number of victims could increase.”

However, an investigation conducted by The Daily Express and My London revealed fresh details of grooming gangs operating in the capital.

The details of at least six potential victims were documented in the pages of four different His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services reports from 2016 to 2025.

The cases ranged from a 15-year-old girl being raped by "numerous men" after going missing for four days to a 17-year-old being given alcohol before being raped by several men.

Reform UK MP Lee Anderson said: “There is real, credible evidence that grooming gangs exist in London, and for the Mayor [Sadiq Khan] to have potentially turned a blind eye is utterly shameful".
