The police recognised the suspect whilst attending a hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court

A fourth man has been arrested in connection with the Golders Green arson attack after being recognised by police when attending a hearing for the three other suspects.

On Saturday morning Metropolitan police arrested a 19-year-old man at Westminster Magistrates' Court in relation to the ongoing investigating after four ambulances were set alight in Golders Green on March 23.

Whilst in attendance of the hearing of three other suspects, officers recognised the man, who was suspected to be involved in the arson attack.

He was arrested on suspicion of arson, with the intent of endangering life and has been bailed until May.

This is the latest development in the case, with two men and a teenage boy having already been charged over the incident that saw four Jewish-community-run ambulances being destroyed in the arson attack.

Hamza Iqbal, 20, and Rehan Khan, 19, both British nationals from Leyton, east London, have been charged with arson being reckless as to whether life would be endangered.

A 17-year-old boy, a dual British and Pakistani national from Walthamstow who cannot be named due to his age, has also been charged.

They were all arrested on April 1, at different locations in east London and officers from Counter Terrorism Policing London have carried out searches at their addresses.

On April 3, all three were charged with arson being reckless as to whether life would be endangered.

They appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday, where they remain in custody in preparation to appear at the Old Bailey on April 24.

The arrests and charges are part of an ongoing investigation being led by Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP), where four ambulances from Hatzola, a volunteer-led ambulance service operating in the Golders Green area of north London, were set on fire during the incident.

Two other men were also arrested on March 25, who have both been released on bail to a date later on this month, pending further enquiries.

The incident has not been labelled as "terrorism" yet, but due to the circumstances, CTP is leading the investigation.

Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, which is leading the investigation said earlier this month: "Since this appalling attack last week, we have been working continuously to investigate and identify those responsible.

"I want to reiterate that the support we had from the local community since this attack took place has been incredible and we will continue to work closely with local policing colleagues to do everything we can to keep the public safe."

Police have urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to call the police on 101 and provide the reference 415 of March 23.

If people wish to remain anonymous police have directed people to call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
