However, another group followed shortly afterwards and installed Union flags in their place.
Speaking to Patrick Christys, the man said: "To say I am proud of our flag is an understatement, I live in the beleaguered region of Tower Hamlets. Recently, flagpoles there had Palestinian flags on them. Someone came round and took them down, replacing them with Saint George’s crosses.
But just 15 minutes later, Tower Hamlets Council turned up and removed the St George’s crosses.
"What they didn’t realise was that 15 minutes behind them came another team who put up Union flags.
Patrick asked: "So is this really worthwhile? Anyone taking those flags down?"
He laughed and said: "No, it’s not. We dare them to take them down."
