A police force is urging witnesses to come forward after two teenage girls were “raped and sexually assaulted near a train station” by a 19-year-old male.

Sonny Boyes was arrested by Devon and Cornwall Police on suspicion of rape and sexual assault against a 16-year-old and 17-year-old girl in Exeter.


He has been charged with two counts of rape and three counts of assault by penetration relating to the two victims following an investigation.

The 19-year-old remains in custody, the force said.

Both incidents allegedly took place in the area of Digby and Sowton train station between 8.45pm and 10pm on May 9.

The 16-year-old girl was raped first and half an hour later, the 17-year-old was sexually assaulted on the platform. She was later assaulted again whilst on the train.

Det Ch Insp Pebworth said: “We believe that there were lots of people in the area of Digby and Sowton last night and we are urging anyone with information which may assist us to please get in touch.

“A number of scene guards will be in place today as we continue our investigation and there is an increased high visibility presence.”

In a statement on Sunday, Det Insp Emma Lefort, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said: “The victims continue to be supported by our specialist officers at this time.

“We continue to investigate the incidents and want to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of Digby & Sowton railway station, or on a train passing through, between 20:45 and 22:00 on Friday 9 May.”
