Staff are advising passengers to rebook for another day

Eurostar have cancelled all trains from St Pancras due to a fault with overhead power supply in the Channel Tunnel, causing chaos to thousands of travellers.

The issue remains ongoing, and while the tunnel has partially re-opened allowing for service to resume soon, they continue to advise passengers to rebook for another day.

Eurostar said in a statement: "The overhead power supply issue remains, and we strongly advise all our passengers to postpone their journey to a different date.

"Please don't come to the station if your train is confirmed as cancelled.

"We regret that trains that can run will be subject to severe delays and possible last-minute cancellations.

"Please check for live updates on the status of your train on the Train status and timetables page."

National Rail also urged passengers to postpone their journeys to a different date, adding that the problem could lead to severe delays and last-minute cancellations.

"There is a problem with the overhead power supply in the Channel Tunnel," the statement says.

"Trains are likely to be subject to severe delays and last-minute cancellations.

"Check before you travel as your journey could be disrupted. We strongly advise all passengers to postpone their journey to a different date."

The service that takes road vehicles on trains across the Channel, the LeShuttle terminals, is also warning of hour-long delays. Its route travels from Folkestone to Calais.

Le Shuttle said its services are temporarily suspended for both terminals, with a delay of around three-and-a-half hours on the Folkestone side

Train company LNER confirmed that "any customers who have had to abandon their journey in London King's Cross are able to return to their home station on the next available LNER service at no additional cost".

LNER customers who choose to defer their Eurostar travel to a different day may use their existing LNER ticket to travel on that same day, it adds.

Some reports are suggesting that passengers have been stuck on trains for hours, while another train is stuck in an operating tunnel and is trying to be moved.

The delays caused confusion and chaos online, with one user writing: "Still stalled for 3 hours going to Belgium. Waiting for a train stuck in the only operating tunnel to be moved. Other trains are currently in the same situation behind us. Left London at 07. @Eurostar."

The individual later added: "Our train is turning around back to London."

Another included a photo of hundreds of cars in traffic, trying to board the LeShuttle service from Folkestone, and wrote: "We are stuck in lines of traffic waiting to board @Eurostar from Folkestone to Calais Going nowhere. Power failure apparently. One way to end the year!"
