Donald Trump's top faith adviser has come under fire after comparing the President to Jesus Christ during an Easter lunch event at the White House.
Paula White‑Cain, a televangelist and spiritual adviser to the President, drew parallels between his assassination attempt in 2024 to the tribulations suffered by Jesus.
She also said that the President’s life trajectory follows "a familiar pattern that our Lord and Saviour showed us."
Mrs White‑Cain has served during both of President Trump's terms in office.

Speaking at the White House, she said: "Mr President, no one has paid the price like you have paid the price. It almost cost you your life.
"You were betrayed and arrested and falsely accused.
"It's a familiar pattern that our Lord and Saviour showed us - but it didn't end there for him and it didn't end there for you."
With the President standing behind her, smiling and thanking her, she continued: "God always had a plan: On the third day, he rose, he defeated evil, he conquered death, hell and the grave.

"And because he rose, we all know that we can rise. And sir, because of his resurrection, you rose up.
"Because he was victorious, you are victorious. And I believe that the Lord said to tell you this: because of his victory, you will be victorious in all you put your hands to."
The White House subsequently removed the footage of the event from its official channels, though journalists had already circulated the video across social media platforms.
Her remarks prompted widespread condemnation from religious figures and commentators, with many branding the comparison "blasphemous."

Reverend Benjamin Carter wrote on X: "This is blasphemy. This is what it sounds like to take Jesus' name in vain."
Catholic theologian Rich Raho expressed his astonishment at the remarks, posting: "Blasphemous. It's stunning to see a US Bishop standing right there on the stage while Paula White compares Trump to Jesus Christ."
Bishop Robert Barron drew particular criticism for apparently applauding White-Cain's address.
One user demanded: "My God if this isn't breaking the third commandment in a mortal sin level of gravity, what is the commandment even for?"
Democrat Christopher Hale noted that the bishop had "skipped part of Holy Week with his flock to attend this."
Conservative commentator Erick Erickson said the footage had "burned through the Christian community in a not-good way."
Mrs White-Cain has been part of the Trump administration since 2019 and also spoke at the President's inauguration in 2017.
Just days ago, she urged her followers to donate "the first 10th of your gross income" to support her ministry and its causes, which includes funding projects in Israel.
"I believe that it's so important to honour God with his tithe. An offering, that’s free will," she said in a YouTube video over the weekend.
