Nicholas Pinnock has opened up about the deep level of trust he shared with co-star Antonia Thomas while filming the gripping new Two Weeks in August, praising the actress for helping create an authentic and emotionally layered on-screen relationship.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Greece, the BBC drama follows a group of friends and family whose idyllic holiday quickly spirals into chaos.

At the centre of the story is Zoe, played by Jessica Raine, a woman desperately trying to rediscover happiness and purpose in her life.

But after an illicit kiss sparks tensions among the group, paradise soon turns into a psychological nightmare filled with secrets, betrayals and life-threatening consequences.

Mr Pinnock stars as Solomon, one half of what initially appears to be the perfect power couple alongside Jess, portrayed by Thomas.

However, as the series unfolds, cracks begin to emerge beneath their polished exterior.

Reflecting on Solomon and Jess’ complicated marriage, Mr Pinnock explained how carefully he and Thomas approached the emotional intensity of their scenes together.

“Jess and Solomon are like a super couple. He's an actor, she's an entrepreneur. They are a bit like David and Victoria Beckham in the sense that they work well together,” he said.

“These are the optics you see at the beginning, and then we begin to uncover the truth behind them.”

The actor went on to reveal that trust became the foundation of their performances, especially as the series peeled back the layers of their relationship.

“There was a lot of trust between Antonia and me,” Mr Pinnock shared. “We had a lot of the same ideas, and being able to feel comfortable with your screen partner, especially somebody who's playing a partner, is really important. I found that immediately with Antonia.”

His comments offer a touching glimpse into the off-screen dynamic that helped bring the couple’s emotional struggles to life on-screen.

As Two Weeks in August explores themes of desire, repression, identity and emotional collapse, the chemistry between Mr Pinnock and Thomas becomes central to the drama’s unraveling tension.

The series also marks a major writing showcase for creator and screenwriter Catherine Shepherd, whose scripts deeply impressed Mr Pinnock from the beginning.

“When I read this, I was completely blown away,” he said. “I think Catherine has a great way of depicting real people.

“Her language feels real and not like dialogue, creating a dynamic between the characters which I found really interesting.”

He added: “The scripts really struck a chord with me, which was why I was enthused about wanting to be a part of it.”

Blending emotional drama with mystery and psychological suspense, Two Weeks in August transforms a luxurious Greek getaway into a reckoning for a group of adults forced to confront the truth about themselves and each other.

As tensions rise and the group becomes trapped on the island, accusations and paranoia begin to spread, leaving viewers to question whether Zoe is truly responsible for the destruction unfolding around them — or whether darker, almost mythological forces are at play.

With standout performances and emotionally grounded writing, the series promises to be one of the BBC’s most compelling relationship dramas of the year — and Pinnock’s heartfelt praise for Thomas only highlights the powerful connection at the heart of it.
