The former US President wrote: 'I'M BACK! #COVFEFE' in a self-deprecating gag about one of his past tweets

Donald Trump has made his return to social media with a post on Twitter rival Truth Social.

The former US President wrote: "I'M BACK! #COVFEFE" in a self-deprecating gag about one of his past tweets.

Trump sent the message with a photo of himself looking at his phone on a croquet lawn outside of his Mar-a-Lago country club.

#COVEFE is a reference to a Trump misspelling in a 2017 tweet, where he criticised media commentary on his administration.

The former president wrote: "Despite the constant negative press covfefe".

The error was spotted by many and garnered a huge amount of attention, with over 100,000 likes and retweets before it was eventually deleted.

Donald Trump has now made a return to social media after being banned from Twitter, Facebook and Instagram in the wake of the January 6th Capitol Hill riots.

Trump has insisted he will not be making a return to Twitter, even with Elon Musk's purchase of the platform.

He told Fox News: "I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on Truth. I hope Elon buys Twitter because he'll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on Truth".

Truth Social representatives said the platform is "better than being on Twitter" and will represent a positive change in the social media sphere.

Discussing Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter, GB News' Nigel Farage told Dan Wootton on Wednesday that he is "certain" the former US president will make a return to the website.

He said: “I’m certain Trump will be back on Twitter, connecting directly with tens of millions of people from 5:30am East Coast time every day, to the joy of many, to the horror of others.

“I wish him well, of course I do with his Truth Social platform.

“But the fact is, for anyone to challenge the prominence and dominance of Twitter, of these giants, takes billions and many, many years so I think Trump will be back and our lives will more interesting as a result of it".

Rumours continue to swirl over whether Donald Trump will run for reelection in the 2024 US presidential vote, with the 72-year-old strongly hinting at a run for the role.
