'It frightened me. Yesterday I had nightmares'

A terrified witness to the Birmingham dog attack has confessed to running from the rampant animal as it mauled an eleven-year-old girl and two men.

Bordesley Green resident, Jonathon Ullah, aged 37, saw the dangerous dog attack up close.

“I was sitting by the car wash over the road,” Ullah said.

“We heard screams so I ran across and there’s a little girl on the floor.

“Her arm was all bitten and all the way down the side of her face.

“This dog was biting people.

“I was frightened – I had to hide behind a bin because I was scared.”

The dog savaged a child outside of a supermarket in the Birmingham inner-city suburb before chasing down a man at a Texaco petrol station.

“One bloke was filling up his car and he dropped on the floor, bit him, took chunks out of his body then was running around after other people.”

The dog, which police say is a cross between a Bully XL and Staffordshire Bull Terrier, is a puppy that broke loose from its collar before savagely attacking locals enjoying the sun on Saturday (9 September) afternoon.

Jonathon continued, saying: “It frightened me. Yesterday (Sunday 10 September) I had nightmares.

“I was bit as a child by a dog myself – my own dog and it frightened me.”

Another Bordesley resident, Anita Goodhall, aged 38, claimed the dog had been left for hours without food or water in the 30-degree heat.

She said “Animals shouldn’t be out in the street when it’s so hot. It’s the owner’s fault.”

A video of the attack filmed from a bus has been shared widely on social media.

West Midlands Police said that the girl, who has been named in the media as Ana Paun is recovering at home after spending time in hospital.

Police confirmed to GB News that the owner of the dog has not been arrested.

In a statement, West Midlands Police said: “Several people rushed to her (Ana Paun) aid and as the dog broke free from its owner a second time, a 20-year-old man was chased across a garage forecourt and was taken to hospital with bites to his shoulder and forearm, along with cuts and bruises from being dragged across the floor.”

“Another man also suffered injuries and presented himself at hospital for treatment. We wish them a speedy recovery.”

“The dog was seized by officers and taken to a vet suffering from heat exhaustion. He has now been taken into secure kennels and our dog unit will consider what will happen to it.”

“The dog’s owner is currently in hospital and we will be speaking to him in due course.”

Police continued to say, “This was an alarming and shocking incident on a busy road in high temperatures and members of the public showed immense courage in tackling such a ferocious dog.”

“We are taking statements from the victims and witnesses, and will have increased patrols in the area for anyone who would like to speak to us.”

The Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, says she is seeking “urgent advice” on banning the American Bully XL breed.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, she says the dog breed poses a “lethal danger” to communities and children.
