The South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust role has a range from £70,387 to £80,465

With Starmer cutting thousands of jobs by abolishing NHS England and his much vaunted app cutting down waiting times, the NHS is hiring for the role of an equalities manager on a whopping £70k.

The job is being advertised for a role within South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, which includes Bethlem Royal Hospital in Bromley and Lambeth Hospital.

According to the NHS website, the job would be a mix of of home and office working, with the office work based at the trust's headquarters in Maudsley Hospital, Denmark Hill.

In the listing, one of the roles of the job is to "Lead on the delivery of EDI (Equality, Diversity, Inclusion) activities, plans, interventions and strategies in support of the Trust's overall strategic plans."

One of the main responsibilities in the job listing is to: "provide senior and specialist expertise on equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights across the organisation, supporting the Operational Directorates to take an evidence-based approach to working towards equity of access, experience, and outcomes for service users."

Another responsibility is to "be knowledgeable about and responsive to the experience of groups with protected characteristics" and "ensure compliance with the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 and public sector reporting duties."

It comes as Sir Keir Starmer announced the abolishment of NHS England, dubbed the "world's largest quango" by Wes Streeting.

Starmer wrote in The Telegraph earlier this month: "It’s difficult for the state to get things done, imagine being a small business. Business unable to grow because of red tape. Families unable to buy because an overcautious, flabby state got in the way."

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch welcomed the abolishment of NHS England but added that Labour had to deliver.

However, former Tory health minister James Bethell tweeted: "I wish we'd had the guts to do this."

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister is facing pressure to bring forward cuts to Britain’s quango sector after it emerged that more than 1,300 staff are earning salaries and benefits packages worth over £100,000.

Figures posted earlier this year suggested that 223 employees within quangos are receiving higher salaries than the Prime Minister himself, who earns £172,153.

The Taxpayer Allowance's chief executive, John O’Connell, said although the numbers were shocking, the "bigger problem is that in many areas of Government policy these quango bosses reign supreme, with minimal ministerial or parliamentary oversight."

A Government spokesman said: "The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster has launched a review of all arm’s-length bodies across government and we will close or merge any that cannot be justified.

"We have already announced we’ll get rid of the largest arm’s-length body, NHS England, by merging it with the Department of Health and Social Care. This will increase efficiency and help to deliver the Plan for Change."
