Cannabis 'disguised as children's sweets' snatched by police from 'suspicious' vehicle

Officers from Greater Manchester Police's Transport Unit stopped the car where several bags of cannabis were removed.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis.

The driver was further arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

Photos show the seized bags of cannabis hidden in brightly coloured bags and plastic bottles.

GMP Longsight and Moss Side Police said "numerous bags of cannabis disguised as children's sweets" were found.

A spokesperson wrote on social media: "Officers from GMP transport unit have come across a vehicle tonight with the occupants acting suspiciously in the Hulme area.

"Both driver and passenger arrested on suspicion of Possession with intent to Supply Class B drugs (Cannabis) after being found with numerous bags of cannabis disguised as children's sweets and energy drinks.

"Driver further arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of cannabis Sec 5a RTA."

In 2022, a separate investigation found cannabis sweets "marketed at children" were being packaged to look like bags of Haribo and Skittles and sold on social media.

Police said at the time that children as young as eight were taken to hospital after consuming the Class B drug.

The "sweets" were being sold for as little as £5 on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and Snapchat.

Police in the east of England said that a third of people arrested in relation to cannabis edibles are under the age of 18.

It has been reported that many products appear to have been brought into the UK from California.
