Man charged with attempted murder as police officer left in critical condition after car crash

A 28-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was left with life-threatening injuries following a car crash.

Simranjit Kajla from Slough will appear at Reading Magistrates' Court after Thames Valley Police officer PC Christopher Miller was seriously hurt by a car which did not stop on the B416 Bells Hill in Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire.


Kajla is accused of attempted murder, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and using a motor vehicle on a road without insurance.

Miller has spent 13 years in the force, with five years of those in the roads policing unit.

Three other individuals have been arrested in connection with the crash.

All from Slough, a 38-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and causing serious injury by dangerous driving, but has been released on police bail until August 23.

A 43-year-old man has been released under investigation after being arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice.

A 37-year-old woman remains in custody after being arrested for assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

The incident occurred around 10.20pm on May 22, when a white BMW was involved in a collision with Millar.

The car did not stop at the scene, and the officer sustained serious injuries.

Speaking to reporters near the scene, Detective Superintendent Will Crowther said: "On Thursday, one of our officers was seriously injured whilst simply doing his job.

"He is currently in hospital with life-threatening injuries."

Det Supt Crowther confirmed the injured officer as PC Christopher Miller from the Roads Policing Unit.

He said: "Christopher has sustained very serious injuries and remains in hospital in a critical condition.

"His family are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers, as are his closest colleagues."

Thames Valley Police Deputy Chief Constable Ben Snuggs said: "All officers should expect to return home safely after each tour of duty, and we wish Christopher a swift and full recovery."

He added: "We have all been affected by this, right across Thames Valley Police.

"I want to thank our local communities for all their support and the wider public for the supportive messages we have received."
