Police are appealing for witnesses following the boy's death

Police are continuing to investigate the death of 16-year-old Taha Soomro at Barry Island Pleasure Park in South Wales.

The teenager died following what police described as a "medical episode" at the amusement park on Friday, May 23.


South Wales Police confirmed that a 15-year-old boy from Cardiff was arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the death.

The 15-year-old suspect has now been released on police bail as officers conduct further enquiries, South Wales Police confirmed in an update.

A police spokesman said: "A 15-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of assault is now on bail pending further enquiries."

The force added that Taha's family "has been updated and continues to be supported" by specialist officers.

Police are carrying out "extensive enquiries" to "establish the cause and circumstances of Taha's death".

The incident occurred at around 5pm on Friday at the popular amusement park in Barry Island.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, Taha could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pleasure park remained open as usual from 11am the following day.

South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses who were at Barry Island Pleasure Park at the time of the incident to come forward.

A spokesman said: "Anyone who was in Barry Island Pleasure Park around the time of the incident, around 5pm on Friday, May 23, that may have information that could assist our investigation is asked to contact us."

Following the incident, the pleasure park said: "Very sad news yesterday, all of our team did their best to assist the emergency services but unfortunately the boy suffered a medical emergency and couldn't be saved.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this very sad time."
