Prosecutors said Philip Gould's behaviour was 'frightening' and he became a 'serious safety issue' in the sky

A 64-year-old businessman is facing jail after admitting to a string of offences on a British Airways flight.

Philip Gould confessed to sexually assaulting a male flight attendant and endangering an aircraft during a flight home from the Bahamas last year.

Chaos broke out on June 25 last year as Gould and his wife were travelling home from a holiday in Grand Cayman.

Around three hours into the flight, Gould appeared intoxicated and cabin crew were alerted.

Shortly afterwards, he approached the cockpit and began banging on the door while shouting at staff, the captain and passengers.

Crew members considered his actions a serious safety concern and positioned themselves between Gould and the flight deck entrance.

The businessman pushed a crew member in the chest, causing him to stumble backwards into a passenger.

When staff told him to calm down, Gould became more agitated.

He then screamed at cabin crew: "I'll kill you - there are not enough people on the plane to restrain me."

Gould subsequently hit his wife and grabbed her hair, the court was told.

When a female flight attendant attempted to intervene, Gould verbally abused her, calling her a "s**g" before adding: "You're pretty."

He then stood up and embraced her, but while doing so kissed a male crew member on the right cheek and nibbled on his ear.

Prosecutor Ashleigh Ettienne told Isleworth Crown Court: "The defendant's escalating behaviour was frightening and he became a serious safety issue."

Gould eventually fell asleep and was arrested when the jet landed at Heathrow.

He later claimed the combination of wine and vodka "had sent him over the edge".

Judge Fiona Barrie warned Gould of the consequences of his behaviour.

"This court takes a very dim view of people who behave drunk on an aircraft," she said. "A prison sentence is a likely possibility here. It is in your interests to be represented by counsel."

Defence barrister Manny Arora told the court his client suffers from PTSD and is remorseful.

"He accepts he consumed some vodka. But when he entered the aircraft, he was not intoxicated," Mr Arora said.

Gould, from Woking in Surrey, was granted unconditional bail ahead of sentencing on February 11.

At Isleworth Crown Court on Wednesday, Judge Barrie told him that a jail spell would be likely.

In court, he pleaded guilty to sexual assault, being intoxicated on an aircraft, two counts of assault by beating, and recklessly acting in a way that could endanger the plane.
