A body has been found in the search for a missing mother who disappeared two weeks ago.

Christine Stenson, 66, of the Wheatley area in Doncaster, was last spotted walking along Cantley Lane in the direction of Rose Cemetery on August 12 at 5.57pm. She has not been seen since.

South Yorkshire Police have now announced that they had found a body during their search efforts.

They did not state where the body was found, and whilst they are yet to formally identify the remains, the force believes it is Stenson.

A spokesperson said: “Officers searching for missing 66-year-old woman Christine, who was last seen on Monday 12 August, have today (Tuesday 27 August) found a body.

“While formal identification is yet to take place, officers believe it to be that of Christine.

“Her family has been informed and continues to be supported by officers at this time.

“We want to take this opportunity to thank the public who have been incredibly supportive in sharing our appeals about Christine’s disappearance and for passing on information to assist our inquiry.

“We also want to extend our thanks to partners including Lowland Rescue, who have assisted with searches.

“Our thoughts are with Christine’s loved ones at this difficult time.”

Christine's husband Glen, daughter Lisa and siblings Gary, Gillian, Paul and Sandra were all said to be “heartbroken” by her disappearance.

Police had mapped out her final captured moments on CCTV. She had been dropped off at an address in Hawke Road at around 5.05pm on August 12, and South Yorkshire Police believe she only spent five minutes at the property before leaving.

The 66-year-old was then spotted seven minutes later on Thorne Road before a fourth sighting caught her at Racecourse Roundabout at 5.40pm.

The mum was then spotted on Bawtry Road opposite a Shell Garage, before the final sighting of her was recorded just before 6pm.

Police said they were “keen” to understand where she may have gone after this.

They said they had “deployed numerous resources” in trying to locate the missing 66-year-old.

A previous force statement said: “We have deployed numerous resources in our work to find Christine, including specialist search teams, off-road bike teams, mounted officers, drones, and specialist search dogs, and have had support from a National Police Air Service helicopter utilising thermal imaging technology.”
