Bev Turner sat down for an interview with the US President yesterday

Ben Leo has lifted the lid on what really happened behind the scenes of GB News’ world exclusive interview with Donald Trump, calling the entire experience "extraordinary".

Ben described how he stood just inches behind Bev Turner in the White House’s Roosevelt Room as Mr Trump launched a blistering attack on the BBC, even before cameras were rolling.

He said the moment the interview ended, Mr Trump personally invited the GB News team into the Oval Office, proudly showing them the gold-trimmed décor and chatting warmly about Britain, Nigel Farage and the upcoming General Election.

Speaking about the experience on The People's Channel, Ben said: "Once we finished the interview, President Trump came over to us, said hello, and asked whether we’d like to see his office and the Oval Office.

"Stepping into that room was extraordinary you can feel the history, the soul of the place, the sheer grandeur, and of course the gold décor that President Trump has installed throughout.

"He’s received criticism for that stylistic choice across the White House, but I have to say, in person, it looked remarkable.

"And it didn’t stop there. He then invited Bev, me and some of the crew out onto the Rose Garden patio.

"There was American music playing, which was very funny, and from the top of the patio we had a quick glimpse down at the Presidential Hall of Fame. We even ended up talking about Joe Biden.

"President Trump is, I have to say, a very genuine man. When he speaks to you, he looks you directly in the eye, he asks questions, and he shows real interest and concern.

"He also has a clear affinity for the UK. He asked how Nigel Farage was getting on who’s leading in the polls and what the major policy debates will be heading into the General Election.

"I spoke to him about energy prices too. He asked how we were settling into DC, and I said: 'Mr President, one of the best things about your country is the energy bills I’m getting through the post compared to the UK.'

"Honestly, they’re worlds apart, we’re paying cents and dollars for electricity and gas over here, and compared to Britain it’s a completely different ball game.

"He seemed genuinely pleased that we were enjoying life in Washington.

"It was an incredible experience but the most important part, of course, is that President Trump is now pursuing his legal case against the BBC, proving me wrong.

"As I’ve said, he’s going for it. He is going to see them in court. He told us he wants between $1billion and $5billion from the BBC."

Ben described the entire day as one of the most surreal and unforgettable moments of his career, blending history, controversy and unprecedented access.

He concluded that while the tour was extraordinary, the most consequential part was Mr Trump’s absolute certainty that he will see the BBC in court.

Ben said the scale of Trump’s reaction left no doubt that the Corporation now faces a legal battle.
