Michael Gove warned that Britain risks 'descending into the darkness'

Ben Habib has claimed the “whole British psyche is being eroded” as he demanded a “robust” approach to protecting the nation’s values.

It comes after Michael Gove warned that Britain risks “descending into the darkness” if it fails to tackle growing antisemitism in the wake of the 7 October attacks.

Speaking on GB News, the Reform UK co-deputy leader said efforts must be made to protect British values also.

“It’s not just antisemitism taking place these days”, he said.

“I feel threatening wearing a Union flag on my lapel. People automatically assume you’re far right.

“If you want strong borders, you’re far right. I’m going to wear my flag with pride because this is the United Kingdom.

“We have got to be more robust in protecting and promoting that which is British and that has got to start in the education establishment, the institutions, businesses, the armed forces.

“All these institutions must know what it means to be British.”

He continued his rant on Dewbs & Co by reeling off things that “don’t” equate to the restoration of British values.

“I’m clear on this”, he said.

“What it doesn’t include is castigating our forefathers and forgetting the fantastic contribution we have made to the world in terms of peace and prosperity.

“The fact that Winston Churchill is not a white supremacist but someone who won World War Two.

“The fact the UK has a proud history in all sorts of spheres. We’re repeatedly told that if we leave the European Court of Human Rights, we lose human rights, we involved them for goodness sake.”

Gove criticised the organisers of pro-Palestine marches.

“Many of those on these marches are thoughtful, gentle, compassionate people – driven by a desire for peace and an end to suffering,” he will say. “But they are side by side with those who are promoting hate.

“The organisers of these marches could do everything in their power to stop that. They don’t.”

Instead of banning the marches, the Government should instead focus on stressing the importance of British values, Habib said on GB News.
