An EasyJet flight from Turkey to Manchester has been forced to make an emergency landing in Germany after a female passenger became disruptive.

The woman was accused of screaming about a bomb and attempting to open the emergency exit.

The passenger, who was travelling alone, caused flight EZY2148 to divert to Frankfurt after her erratic behaviour alarmed crew and fellow passengers.

According to witnesses, the woman screamed that there was a "bomb" on the flight before lunging for the exit door and life jackets. Terrified passengers watched as she attempted to open the door.

A passenger told Manchester Evening News: "Once the plane had took off, she began to run up and down the plane screaming about how it was going down and there was a bomb."

The same passenger also claimed the woman disturbed a couple by insisting the plane was "going down".

"She then quickly jumped up and grabbed the emergency exit door handle cover and ripped it off," the passenger explained.

It reportedly took "three males" to wrestle her away from the door before she was taken to the back of the plane by cabin crew.

The flight had been due to leave Dalaman, Turkey at 11pm, but departed at midnight local time.

The crew and passengers touched down in Frankfurt at around 2.30am, with emergency services seen boarding the flight.

Passengers were reportedly made to stay on the same flight for hours whilst the pilots waited for orders.

An "airport curfew" meant the flight could not depart Frankfurt until later on Sunday. The flight eventually arrived in Manchester at 1.40pm, according to EasyJet's website.

The overnight delay left passengers stranded on the aircraft longer than usual due to what the airline later described as "limited airport ground handling availability overnight".

An easyJet spokesman said: "Flight EZY2148 from Dalaman to Manchester on May 24 diverted to Frankfurt due to a passenger behaving disruptively onboard.

"Unfortunately, due to the airport curfew, the flight had to be delayed overnight and has since continued to Manchester today."

The airline added that their cabin crew are trained "to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately" to ensure passenger safety.

An investigation has reportedly been launched in Germany to find what caused the woman to act in such a dramatic way.

The incident occurred on May 24, with the flight eventually arriving in Manchester the following day after the overnight delay caused by the passenger's disruptive behaviour.
