The High Court is due to make a decision on whether the Royal London hospital can perform scans to decide if Archie has been left brain dead

The mum of Archie Battersbee told GB News how her son tightly grips her hand in hospital, with the High Court ruling due on his future today.

Specialists treating Archie, 12, at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, east London, think it “highly likely” that the youngster is dead and say life-support treatment should end.

Bosses at the hospital’s governing trust, Barts Health NHS Trust, on Thursday asked Mrs Justice Arbuthnot to rule that a test to establish whether Archie was brain-stem dead would be in the youngster’s best interests.

But Archie's mum, Hollie Dance, told GB News how she sees signs of life in her son in hospital, where he tightly grips her hand.

She told us: "He's gripped my hand very tightly he's drawn blood where he's been squeezing so hard.

"He's tried to open his eyes and i just feel like he's there and he needs time."

She has urged Mrs Justice Arbuthnot not to approve the brain-stem test in the High Court today, while criticising Royal London hospital for what she perceives as a lack of compassion.

Fighting back the tears, she told Stephen and Anne: "With the hospital there's been no compassion and no empathy.

"I'm still trying to come to terms with the trauma of what's happened and trying to get my head round that and you're already telling me you're going to DNR him.

"With that and organ donation it's too much, I want to give him time to heal before we have to do things like that."

Ms Dance believes her son could have been injured after copying an online trend, with police being urged to investigate.

She also told us of Archie's sporting accolades.

She added: "He's a very energetic little boy, very talented, he's been doing gymnastics since he was four.

"He had his first MMA fight that he was training for, he was adamant that he was going to take over Conor McGregor's shoes."
