British shopping was impacted by Wilko entering administration in August 2023 and the subsequent 400 store closures

Wilko has announced the opening date of two new stores which will hit the UK’s high streets as part of a national roll-out, under new ownership.

The everyday home and garden retailer is reopening its doors for customers in Rotherham and St Albans this March.

This comes following the news that Wilko will reopen its former store in Poole just four months after it closed down.

The opening date for the returning retailer’s Rotherham and St Albans concept stores will be March 29, 2024 at 6am.

As part of the new stores, Wilko customers will be offered must-have items across the high street staple’s home and garden ware ranges.

Consumers will be able to browse Wilko-brand products that assist with their home and garden needs, alongside well-known brands.

Furthermore, self-service terminals will be available to allow shoppers to browse and order from the 100,000 items available.

Throughout the year, the national rollout of new Wilko stores will take place across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The next store to reopen will be the Dolphin Centre in Poole, Dorset with work on the site set to begin soon.

The new store’s launch date will be announced shortly, alongside news of further openings during 2024.

These store confirmations comes after the launch of three concept stores in Plymouth, Exeter and Luton.

Alex Simpkin, the CEO of CDS Superstores which is trading as The Range and Wilko, described the reaction to the concept stores as “even better than we’d hoped”.

He explained: “We’ve seen queues of both returning and new customers at the store launches and the feedback is giving us the confidence we need to continue with our store opening plans.

“We’re in advanced negotiations with a number of landlords and are continuing to review all options as a part of our roll-out plan.

According to the CEO, former Wilko employees will be given priority for new roles at the concept stores.

Furthermore, the new sites will mark the brand’s first time operating in Northern Ireland.
