Santander is tempting customers with a £100 Amazon Gift Card, and unusually, there’s no need to switch banks.
In a rare move, the lender is giving away the reward simply for opening a new current account, without forcing customers to move their salary, direct debits or close their old accounts.
The deal, which launched earlier this week, takes a fresh approach that could appeal to customers who have previously avoided switching because of the hassle involved.
To take advantage of the offer, applicants must go through aggregators and comparison sites rather than applying directly with Santander, as this is the only way to qualify.
Once the account is open, the main condition is simple: the new debit card must be used 30 times within 60 days.
Almost any purchase will count towards the total, whether that’s contactless payments in shops, online spending or chip-and-PIN transactions. Even payments made in foreign currencies are eligible.
Customers are advised to use the same email address they registered with when claiming the gift card and to avoid selecting the ‘transfer existing account’ option during the sign-up process.
Four different Santander accounts qualify for the offer, each with different fees and benefits.

The Edge account costs £3 a month but offers one per cent cashback on household bills paid by direct debit, worth up to £10 each month.
It also includes competitive exchange rates when spending abroad, making it a useful option for frequent travellers.
For those looking for more benefits, the Edge Up and Edge Explorer accounts come with higher monthly fees of up to £17.
These include extras such as insurance cover and access to exclusive savings rates. However, for most customers, the free Everyday Current Account is likely to be the simplest and most cost-effective choice.
Alastair Douglas from TotallyMoney points out that "unlike the usual incentives, you won't need to shut down your old account, or use the Current Account Switch Service."
He notes that in theory, you might not need to change your spending habits - just the card you're using.
