Poundland is planning to reopen a number of stores that shut earlier this year, offering a rare boost for high streets hit by ongoing retail closures.
The discount chain is undergoing one of the biggest restructures in its history following its sale to investment firm Gordon Brothers in June.
As part of the shake-up, Poundland had planned to close 68 stores and two warehouses, putting more than 1,300 jobs at risk.
Many branches held clearance sales before shutting their doors, with discounts of up to 40 per cent as the chain began cutting its store numbers.
By late September, 57 shops had already closed. However, Poundland has now confirmed that six of those sites will reopen after reaching new lease agreements with landlords.
Six Poundland outlets that were previously due to shut permanently have been saved after successful talks with property owners.
The stores in Perry Barr, Dundee, Livingston, Musselburgh, Porthcawl and Andover will reopen for customers in the coming weeks.
The shops had already stopped trading and were preparing for permanent closure as part of the discount retailer’s major restructuring programme.

The reprieve comes after Poundland narrowly avoided collapse earlier in 2024, when the High Court approved a crucial restructuring plan just days before the company was due to run out of money.
Investment firm Gordon Brothers bought the discount chain in June and committed up to £60 million in new funding to keep the business going.
The rescue deal allowed Poundland to continue trading while carrying out its large-scale closure programme.
The six stores reopening had previously slashed prices across their shelves, including household goods, food and personal care products, as they prepared to shut down.

The Poundland Perks customer rewards scheme has been discontinued. Members have until January 15, 2026 to use any remaining vouchers.
