The new card includes six months of interest-free purchases and no annual fee for customers

The Post Office has launched a new travel credit card aimed at holidaymakers, offering fee-free overseas spending and six months of interest-free purchases as it expands its financial services business.

The new card, unveiled today, comes with no foreign transaction fees, meaning customers will not face additional charges when making purchases abroad or shopping online with overseas retailers.

Cardholders will also receive six months of interest-free spending on purchases alongside no annual fee, with applications available exclusively online.

The launch marks the first new financial services product introduced by the Post Office this year and forms part of the organisation’s wider push to grow its banking and lending operations.

The travel credit card joins the Post Office’s existing range of savings products, credit cards and personal loans.

One of the card’s main features is the removal of cash advance fees when customers use it to purchase Post Office Travel Money.

Typically, using a credit card to withdraw or obtain cash can result in additional charges from providers, with many firms charging around two per cent of the amount withdrawn while also applying interest immediately.

Under the new arrangement, customers purchasing foreign currency through the Post Office using the travel credit card will avoid those standard cash advance fees.

The move could prove particularly attractive to frequent travellers, as many credit card providers continue to apply commission or foreign usage charges when cards are used overseas.

The card does, however, come with a representative 34.9 per cent variable APR, meaning customers who fail to clear their balance after the initial six-month interest-free period could face significant interest costs.

The Post Office said the launch forms part of its broader Transformation Programme, which is designed to increase revenue and strengthen support for postmasters across the UK.

The latest launch follows the Post Office’s return to the personal loans market last year through a partnership with lending platform Lendable.

Sean Morley, head of financial services at the Post Office, said: "We're thrilled to launch our new Travel Credit Card, packed with benefits we know customers really value.

"With features like no foreign transaction fees and no cash advance fees on Travel Money bought from Post Office, it truly stands out in a competitive market.

"By expanding our range of financial services, we're not only helping customers get more from their money but also generating income that supports postmasters and communities across the UK.

"This is just the start... we're excited about what's to come."

The Post Office currently operates more than 11,500 branches across the UK, which the organisation said is more than all banks and building societies combined.

According to the Post Office, almost the entire UK population lives within three miles of a branch, while around 4,000 locations are open seven days a week.
