Rightmove is launching a dedicated Zero Bills label for property listings

Property hunters could slash their annual energy costs by more than £2,350 by opting for greener homes, following a new collaboration between Britain's biggest energy supplier and its largest property platform.

Octopus Energy and Rightmove have announced a partnership designed to help millions of people searching for homes identify properties with superior environmental credential

The initiative will see Rightmove introduce a dedicated Zero Bills label on its listings, enabling developers to showcase properties that qualify for Octopus's innovative Zero Bills smart tariff.

According to Rightmove's Energy Bills Tracker, those moving from a standard EPC D-rated property to a Zero Bills home stand to make substantial savings.

The Zero Bills tariff represents a world-first offering that eliminates household energy costs entirely for periods spanning five to ten years.

To qualify for this groundbreaking guarantee, properties must be fitted with a combination of cutting-edge green technology, specifically heat pumps, battery storage systems and solar panels.

The two companies have committed to developing additional tools and resources that demonstrate how modern low-carbon technology can reduce household expenses whilst simultaneously increasing property values.

Research conducted by Octopus Energy reveals that nine out of ten homeowners who have installed heat pumps express satisfaction with their decision, with 94% reporting their homes feel equally or more comfortable than when heated by traditional gas boilers.

The housing market is witnessing a notable shift towards environmentally friendly features. Rightmove's data indicates that references to heat pumps in property advertisements have surged by 46 per cent compared to the previous year.

Solar panel mentions have similarly climbed, recording a 37 per cent year-on-year increase across listings on the platform.

These figures suggest that green technology is increasingly becoming a key selling point for properties.
