Speculation is rife over what taxes will be raised by Chancellor Rachel Reeves in the upcoming Budget

Chancellor Rachel Reeves is reportedly considering a "mansions tax" in her upcoming Autumn Budget as the Treasury looks for options to plug an estimated £50billion "black hole" in the public finances.

Among the proposals understood to be in consideration include imposing the country-wide capital gains tax (CGT) on higher-value primary residences, as well as scrapping stamp duty.

However, analysts have warned this change to the tax regime could have a detrimental impact on the property market, as well as cause "profound distress" for elderly people.
