Stockport's celebrations after reaching the League One play-off final were marred by ugly scenes as Stevenage goalkeeper Filip Marschall appeared to be knocked to the ground during a pitch invasion at Edgeley Park.

Fans of the home side poured onto the pitch after their side sealed a 2-0 victory over Stevenage on Wednesday night.

That result completed a comfortable 3-0 aggregate triumph and booked Stockport's place at Wembley, where promotion to the Championship is now just one match away.

But amid the jubilant scenes, concern was sparked when Filip Marschall appeared to be barged over by one celebrating supporter.

Television footage showed the 23-year-old goalkeeper falling to the turf and lying on the pitch as fans raced past him.

It is unclear whether the contact was intentional, and there has been no confirmation that Marschall suffered any injury.

The incident nevertheless provoked a furious reaction from supporters on social media.

One viewer wrote: "People that find this sort of thing funny have the same IQ as an ostrich. Degenerates."

Another posted: "Don't understand how that's funny. He'd be crying if the goalkeeper got up and flattened him."

A third added: "I do think that behaviour like this needs to cost teams points deductions."

And a fourth commented: "Stuff like this is what gets pitch invasions stopped. Hope they get banned."

The unsavoury scenes came at the end of a memorable evening for Stockport.

Leading 1-0 from the first leg, the Hatters tightened their grip on the tie after just 14 minutes when Louie Barry produced a brilliant solo goal.

The Aston Villa loanee surged forward before finishing superbly to settle any nerves among the home supporters.

Kyle Wootton then all but ended Stevenage's hopes before the half-hour mark.

The striker reacted quickest inside the area to volley home from close range and double Stockport's lead on the night.

Stevenage improved after the interval and attempted to mount a response, but they were unable to find a way back into the contest.

Stockport held firm to complete a commanding aggregate victory and move within one win of securing a return to the second tier for the first time in 24 years.

Dave Challinor's side will now travel to Wembley on May 24, where they will face either Bradford City or Bolton Wanderers.

Whether they can secure promotion is something only time will tell.
