More than 180,000 people have signed GB News' Don’t Kill Cash petition since it launched on Monday

A busker has warned how moving away from cash could leave Britons more “exposed in a much more vulnerable way”.

Sam Monday, who is part of The Two Sam Band, joined Anne Diamond and Stephen Dixon on GB News to discuss shifts in personal finances and the risk of digitisation.

The busker said: “It’s an interesting one, not having cash.

“By some way, if you’re tapping a card you’re at less risk of certain things like you’re not going to get ill.

“There are positives and I think a lot of people are seeing those things.

“But there are so many risks associated with getting rid of cash completely.

“Especially if you’re giving a busker a little thing, you can get viruses and hacks and all sorts of things.

“You’re exposing yourself in a much more vulnerable way.

“Whereas, if you are just putting a pound coin it’s there, you’ve got your pound coin.”

Monday also explained how busking had become increasingly “unauthentic” with card payments becoming more and more prominent.

He went on to suggest cash brings other benefits for young people, including budgeting.

The music student joined more than 180,000 people by signing GB News' petition.

The petition hopes to put pressure on the Government to introduce legislation which will protect the status of case as legal tender.

It also intends to make sure cash is widely accepted as a means of payment in the United Kingdom until at least 2050.

Several major figures have endorsed the campaign.

Pimlico Plumbers founder Charlie Mullins, RMT general-secretary Mick Lynch and Shadow Culture Secretary Lucy Powell have been among the campaign’s most high-profile backers.
