Eligible households are set to receive £190 in supermarket vouchers to help cover the cost of food and essentials this winter.
The payment comes as part of the Government’s Household Support Fund which provides local councils across England with a share of a funding pot worth £742million.
The fund is designed to support vulnerable households with essential living costs this winter, covering items such as energy bills, food and other necessities.
The scheme runs until March 31, 2026, with funding allocated to local councils. Each council decides how to distribute the money, meaning eligibility rules may vary depending on where you live.
In North Yorkshire, households struggling with the cost of living will soon receive extra help in the form of a £190 payment.
North Yorkshire Council has confirmed that from October 8, eligible residents will be sent a single e-voucher worth £190 to spend on food and essentials.
To qualify, households must already be getting at least a 75 per cent discount on their council tax through the means-tested Council Tax Reduction Scheme as of September 1, 2025.
Those who only receive the standard 25 per cent single occupancy discount will not be eligible. The vouchers can be used over the coming months at major supermarket chains across the region.
Letters will be sent by October 23, 2025 to everyone who qualifies, with instructions on how to claim online using a unique code. Applications must be submitted by the deadline of November 12, 2025.

After completing the online process, beneficiaries should anticipate receiving their electronic vouchers via email within 72 hours, sent from northyorks@select-essentials.co.uk with the subject line "Your Select code has arrived!".
Vouchers can be redeemed at Aldi, Asda, Farmfoods, Iceland, Marks & Spencer, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose. Of these, Asda, M&S, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose allow online orders as well as in-store shopping.

North Yorkshire Council advises: "Get your voucher by email and go shopping using your smartphone, or with a printed voucher if you prefer. You do not need to spend your voucher all in one go. If you do use a printed voucher, please look after it the same as you would money."
Once supermarket choices are made online, they cannot be changed, so households are urged to think carefully about their preferences before claiming.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves acknowledged the financial pressures facing the government, stating: "The £22billion blackhole inherited from the previous governments means we have to take tough decisions to fix the foundations of our economy.
