A look ahead at the full list of planned bank closures next year

The wave of UK bank branch closures shows no signs of slowing down heading into 2026.

This year alone, close to 400 high street bank locations have shut their doors for good, which has been put down to changing customer habits.

Major banking groups including Lloyds Banking Group, Halifax and NatWest have all confirmed that more and more of their customers are ditching in-person visits in favour of online and mobile banking services.

Despite the significant number of branches that have already disappeared from high streets across the country this year, plenty more are already lined up to close next year.

Lloyds Banking Group is pressing ahead with plans to reduce its branch network, with 68 locations now confirmed for closure across its Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland brands.

A spokesperson said: "The way people are banking has changed, with over 21 million customers choosing our apps to manage their money.

"We're providing more choice than ever before, bringing together the best in digital convenience with our people."

The group pointed out that customers can still access services through any of its remaining branches, Post Office counters, banking hubs, and more than 30,000 PayPoint locations for cash deposits.

NatWest is also planning to shut branches in 2026, though the bank is taking a slightly different approach.

Most of the NatWest locations earmarked for closure will stay open until a Banking Hub has been set up in the local area, giving customers somewhere to go for face-to-face services.

For those affected by any of the closures, there are still options available.

Customers can use Post Office branches for everyday banking needs, while cash deposits can be made at over 30,000 PayPoint locations across the country.

Banking hubs, which serve customers from multiple banks, are also being rolled out in communities losing their last branch.

HSBC are among one of the only banks to pledge to keep its branches open - with no further closures set to take place until at least 2027.
