An 11-year-old girl remains in hospital in a serious condition after an alleged knife attack

On Monday, an 11-year-old girl was taken to hospital after being stabbed by a man in Leicester Square in London.

Police were called to reports of a stabbing at the tourist hot spot at 11: 34 am yesterday morning.

Speaking about the incident on GB News, Eamonn Holmes said that when the story broke, GB News was the only news channel to carry it as the lead story.

Initially, the girl's 34-year-old mother was thought to have been hurt but blood from her daughter's injuries had been mistaken for her own, according to the Metropolitan police.

Eamonn said: "The only news channel that carried it as the lead story was GB News. Now, extraordinary.

"Because I looked at it and it was like sixth on BBC and ITV was the same and I'm thinking 'what is your issue here?'

"We've got a mother and an eleven-year-old girl at half eleven in the morning and that's not shock horror?

"Are we that immune to this happening that we don't see this as a big issue?"

Agreeing with Eamonn, Andrew Pierce added: "It's terrifying. They were foreign visitors to this country too."

Dawn Neesom also explained that the Care and Quality Commission review into the incident said: "This is not going to be a one-off."

Ioan Pintaru, 32, has been remanded in custody after being charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed article.

The judge sent both matters to the Central Criminal Court. The next appearance will be there by video link on September 10.

Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah said that the alleged attacker was not known to the mother and daughter.

Jessah said: “At this stage we don't believe the suspect and the victims were known to each other.

“While we continue to work to establish the suspect's motive, at this stage there is nothing to indicate the attack was terror-related.

“Detectives will be keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and may have information that can assist with their enquiries. I would urge anyone who can help to get in touch.”
