'Sometimes a French tuck is the only thing that elevates an outfit'

While certain fashion techniques are simply a passing fad, there are some styling approaches we want to keep in our repertoire long-term.

There are also some looks which receive a deluge of backlash, with younger generations binning off classic looks that have been in fashion for decades.

But one style enthusiast has hit back at those who turn up their noses at one technique.

Content creator Val said: “I don’t understand why so many people on social media get so upset about a French tuck.”

The French tuck - also known as a half tuck - is a simple trick that involves neatly tucking the front of a shirt into trousers.

Many women love it because it instantly cinches in the waist, adding a bit of shape to any outfit. For Val, the chic trick also allows you to showcase a trendy belt.

The beauty creator, who documents her life after 50, explained how she had received criticism over clothing, to which she responded: “To each their own.”

But interestingly, she noted that a French tuck “really upsets some people”.

Running followers through her outfit for the day, Val showed off her simple look with trousers and a knitted green cardigan.

But it’s the accessories that “make an outfit”, she declared. Consequently, she rolled up her sleeves to reveal her gold jewellery for a bit of extra glitz.

Finishing off the outfit, Val matched her bag to her belt, adding a colourful, patterned scarf, paired with sunglasses to protect her eyes from the September sun.

And her fans were quick to agree with the creator’s decision, with one commenting: “I don’t mind the French tuck - I actually think it’s kind of groovy.”

Another concurred, admitting: “Sometimes a French tuck is the only thing that elevates an outfit.”

Chiming in on the conversation, a third user said they would be using the technique “forever”, while another said: “I don’t care what the young kids say.”

People may want to incorporate a half-tuck for a slew of different reasons, from wanting to show off their accessories, like Val, or wanting to define their waist and provide a bit more shape.

It can even give the illusion of looking taller, showing off additional leg line by lifting up the shirt slightly.
