The 'timeless and elegant' shade can transform the space, the home expert proclaimed

It's sometimes hard to believe that a change as little as a wall colour can transform the light, space and feeling of your home - and yet it can.

A home expert has revealed that a single paint colour can instantly make any room appear more expensive, creating a polished and luxurious atmosphere without requiring costly renovations.

Terry Fisher from Sold.co.uk has explained that, while plenty of homeowners believe substantial budgets are necessary for an upmarket appearance, the correct paint choice alone can transform spaces and even add perceived value.

"People think you need to rip out kitchens or spend thousands on new flooring to make a home feel more valuable," Terry said. "But actually, one of the simplest and cheapest ways to elevate a space is to get the paint colour right."

The transformative colour Terry identifies is navy blue, which he describes as "timeless, elegant, and makes a room feel instantly more refined."

But navy blue strikes the perfect balance, being "bold enough to add drama, but subtle enough to remain tasteful".

"Whether you use it on walls, doors or even kitchen cabinets, it creates a sense of depth and sophistication that buyers really respond to," Terry added.

He particularly recommends navy blue for living rooms, dining areas, and bedrooms, although it can create striking impressions in hallways or entrance areas as well.

Navy blue's appeal extends beyond mere aesthetics, with psychological factors playing a crucial role in its effectiveness too.

"Navy blue feels calm and composed.

"It's a colour that creates a sense of order, which can be really appealing to buyers during viewings," he explained.

"It signals that the home has been well cared for, and that care is a subtle value-add when it comes to how people perceive the property," Terry added.

Terry provides practical guidance for implementing navy blue effectively in home decoration. "Go for a matte or eggshell finish rather than high gloss - it looks more sophisticated," he advised, stressing the importance of paint finish selection.

For homeowners uncertain about committing to larger applications, Terry suggests beginning modestly.

"If you're unsure, start small. Even painting a door or an alcove in navy blue can give a space a completely new feel," he said.

Navy blue represents "a low-cost, high-impact update" and constitutes "one of the easiest ways to add an air of understated luxury to any home", he said.
