Retailers usually change their opening hours on bank holidays, often opening later and closing earlier.

GB News rounds up the opening times this coming Monday at Tesco, Aldi, Boots and more.

May bank holiday opening times


Tesco large stores will change their opening hours on bank holiday Monday, closing at 6pm or 8pm. Shoppers are urged to check their local branch online before visiting. Many Tesco Express stores will open as usual.


Asda has updated opening hours



Aldi confirmed stores in England and Wales will close earlier on Monday, at 8pm. Branches in Scotland will close at 10pm as usual. However, some stores will be an exception to this and shoppers can check individual stores for more information.


Asda will operate normal opening hours on Monday in larger branches, which means many stores will close at 10pm. Britons can check with their local branch or online for more information.


Sainsbury's will run seasonal opening hours. Many larger stores will be open between 8am and 8pm on bank holiday Monday. Convenience stores will be open as usual.


Many Lidl shoppers will be able to visit their local branch as normal over the bank holiday. Check the website for more details.


Waitrose shoppers should not face much disruption as most stores will trade during its typical hours on Monday. However, the retailer encourages shoppers to check their local branch for any changes.

Marks & Spencer

Marks & Spencer store opening times will vary on bank holiday Monday with many locations opening later or closing earlier.

IKEA store

IKEA will open many stores as normal on the bank holiday


For example, the location in Kensington will open at 9am, instead of 8am, and close at 7pm instead of 9pm. The Leeds branch will open as usual at 8am but close early at 6pm rather than 8pm. Shoppers can check the website for their specific stores.


Many stores will open later and close early on Monday. The store in London Maida Vale will open at 11am and close at 5pm, instead of opening at 9am and closing at 7pm.

The store in Glasgow Buchanan Galleries will open at 10am, instead of 9am. It will still close at the usual time of 6pm.


Many IKEA stores will be open as normal on Monday but shoppers are told to check the store locator on the website for information on their local branch.
