An excellent skin care routine is widely considered the cornerstone of anti-ageing. Whether you take a preventative approach or a corrective one, the products you use can make a big difference.
According to celebrity dermatologist Dr Dendy Engelman, some skin care saviours are so potent they stop signs of ageing in their tracks.
She spoke exclusively to GB News about the ingredients she swears by, sharing specific recommendations for women over 40.

Dry skin is a common issue among mature women. Over time, the skin barrier weakens, increasing transepidermal water loss. This is further compounded by depleting sebum and hyaluronic acid levels.
Maintaining hydrated skin is essential, no matter how old you are, but as you get older, more legwork might be required.
"Consistent use of moisturisers and products with ingredients like peptides, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants can support hydration and elasticity," the dermatologist advised.
As well as dryness, women over 40 deal with sagging as the body produces less and less elastin.

For a more sculpted visage, facial massage or gua sha can "encourage lymphatic drainage and tone the jawline over time".
Naming the ultimate skin care saviour, Dr Engelman described SPF as "one of the most powerful tools for preventing premature sagging".
Urging women to apply it "daily", she warned that UV exposure "breaks down collagen and elastin", leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and droopy skin.
To get the most out of your sunscreen, a doctor has named the anti-ageing ingredient it should include.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
While good skin care is crucial for a youthful glow, it's important to note that no amount of products can override a poor lifestyle.
For true radiance, the dermatologist cautioned that a holistic approach is required.
"A diet rich in antioxidants, healthy fats like omega-3s, and plenty of water helps support skin integrity from within," she said.
Staying active, getting regular sleep, reducing stress levels, and avoiding smoking "all contribute to maintaining skin firmness", the guru added.
While there are many things you can do at home to boost your skin and turn back the hands of time, drastic, long-lasting results often require professional input.
The dermatologist said: "For those looking to go a step further, there are non-surgical treatments such as Prisma or EVERESSE that stimulate the body's collagen production, helping to firm and lift the skin over time without invasive procedures.
"These can be a great complement to an at-home regimen for more visible results while still maintaining a natural look and feel."
Of course, if you're going down the cosmetic treatment route, always ensure a professional is administering it.
