Getting older does not have to mean sacrificing your skin

Some women are lucky enough to maintain a youthful look without trying too hard, as ageing and appearance are partly determined by genetic factors.

However, there are also simple strategies you can implement to tackle signs of ageing and slow down the overall process, skin care being among the simplest and most effective.

TikTok creator Candace | Life in My 50s (@lifeinmy70s) told her followers that "good skin care is key for radiant skin at 77".

And according to industry experts, the septuagenarian is entirely correct. The American Academy of Dermatology explained that "preventive actions" can slow the effects of extrinsic ageing (ageing as a result of our environment and lifestyle choices).

Many of the "preventive actions" they recommended were skin care related. As well as "gentle" cleansing twice a day and avoiding products that "sting or burn", ladies were told to apply both sunscreen and moisturiser daily.

In a video to her followers, Candace revealed that she loved Clarins products in her 20s and 30s when she got "serious" about skin care, explaining that they "always worked perfectly" for her. Now in her late 70s, she has returned to the iconic cosmetics brand.

In another video, one year prior, when Candace was 76, she shared that TikTok users often asked her about her skin care routine.

The septuagenarian, who is described by followers as "beautiful" and "amazing", revealed that her regime is "so simple".

Candace told followers that she wears SPF50 sunscreen to protect her skin from the sun, adding that her favourite is a Chanel product that "comes out milky and does not show under your makeup".

At night, she removes her makeup and cleanses her face with a Dove beauty bar designed for sensitive skin.

Then, she uses Augustinus Bader's 'The Cream' moisturiser, which is described as "a light, refreshing, deeply hydrating daily moisturiser that supports cellular renewal and dramatically improves the skin's appearance".

The 76-year-old claimed that she noticed results within 30 days, hailing the product's moisturising quality and ability to "make the skin look better overall".

She admitted that it's rather "pricey", though, and that there are plenty of similar creams out there at a lower price point.

Candace has honed her skin care regimen over several decades and has been loyal to her Clarins and Boots products for 15 years.

However, what works for one person will not necessarily work for another, so it's important to seek out the best products for you before implementing a daily routine.

The septuagenarian must be doing something right, though, with one fan commenting: "Whatever you use is working." Another predicted that she will defy ageing, boasting "glowing skin [for] eternity".

If skin care shopping is overwhelming, a dermatologist can offer tailored advice. Whatever you decide on, ensure you are using it correctly and according to its instructions.
