Growing healthy and thick hair is a challenge for many, with baldness affecting most individuals at some stage in their lives.

In most cases, these changes are reversible with a few tweaks to a person's diet and overall lifestyle. One woman claims supplements and a new diet gave her the thickest hair of her life.

Kiki, who documented her hair transformation on the YouTube channel Plantiful Kiki, said: "Two elements in my hair care routine helped me grow thick hair again."

After years of struggling with a bald patch on the crown of her head, the YouTuber switched to a plant-based diet and began taking multivitamins.

“A healthy diet is absolutely essential for healthy hair,” she explained. “What you have going on with your hair, skin and nails is the direct reflection of what is going inside of you.

“If all you’re doing is feeding yourself processed junk, you’re probably going to have junky results.

“Clean up your diet, incorporate more fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, potatoes, legumes, all that good stuff.”

The second player in Kiki's hair transformation was a multivitamin supplement containing key nutrients from food.

“It made all the difference in getting rid of my bald spots,” said the YouTuber. “I got on this and my hair started growing back immediately.”

“Seriously, look into that supplement because it made all the difference in the world to me.”

“It was about three months before I noticed this tuft of hair (growing from my bald spot).”

Hair supplements are frequently lauded as the secret to long and healthy hair, but many scientists challenge these claims.

What's more, there are countless formulations on the market, so some products are more likely to work than others.

Health experts at the Mayo Clinic Health System confirm that diet is a major factor in the condition of hair, skin and nails, however.

“When you’re getting the right amount of vitamins and minerals every day, your body will function better,” they note.

“That means hydrated skin, shiny hair and strong nails. Though you should be getting the right amount of vitamins, minerals and water every day, your body functions and its best.

“That can lead to hydrated skin, shiny hair and strong nails.

“Vitamin A, E and D, iron, healthy fats; carbohydrates; and protein are especially important for skin, hair and nail health.”

While dietitians recommend getting these nutrients from food, multivitamin supplements may help fill any gaps in a person's diet.
