Washing your hair too often may be causing unnecessary damage, an expert told GB News

While some are born with beautiful hair and can thank genetics for strand success, others have to work for enviable locks.

With the right tricks and tactics, it's easily achievable, though. According to a celebrity hairstylist, implementing the right washing techniques can work wonders.

Stylist to the stars and founder of Deeper Than Hair, Annagjid 'Kee' Taylor, spoke exclusively to GB News about the optimal routine.

She said: "Ladies, first things first, there’s no such thing as 'bad' hair. Your hair is beautiful just the way it is - you've just got to learn what it needs to thrive.

"One of the biggest things I tell my clients is to stop over-washing. You don't need to shampoo every day, especially if you have textured or curly hair. Twice a week - maximum - is usually enough.

"And when you do wash, you really only need a small amount - less is more."

The hair experts at John Frieda agree. Answering the question, "Should I wash my hair every day?", the hair specialists said: "The short answer is probably not.

"Though there's some debate among hair care experts on this one, the overwhelming opinion is that, for most people, washing your hair every day is unnecessary. In fact, particularly for people with tight curls, over-washing your hair can dry your hair out, causing damage, split ends, and breakage over time."

Another top washing tip? Double cleansing is crucial for luscious locks, with hair enthusiasts warning that single washes could strip you of "essential benefits".

Weighing in on the two-shampoo advice, Anna said: "That second cleanse? One pump is all you need."

The expert recommended Matrix's Food for Soft Shampoo, claiming that it is "perfect for regular maintenance".

However, there are countless products out there with active ingredients designed to support all hair needs.

Offering a second tip for better hair fast, the hair expert instructed women to "trim those ends".

"I know it sounds counterintuitive when you're trying to grow your hair, but keeping up with regular trims every six to eight weeks prevents split ends from travelling up the shaft. It's all about retention."

Selecting the right hairstyles is another easy and effective way to boost your barnet. The hairstylist advised: "Don't be afraid to switch it up with protective styles like braids, buns, and twists that give your hair a break and help lock in moisture. Your hair deserves rest, just like you do.

"Be sure to keep your scalp moisturised in your protective styles with a serum like Hask's Texture Series Strengthening Scalp & Hair Oil."

Anna concluded: "The bottom line is to love your hair, learn what works for it, and be patient. Healthy hair is a journey, not a race."
