Houseplants are great for brightening up your home, but they can be notoriously difficult to keep alive.
Speaking exclusively to GB News, a plant expert shared the adjustments you must make at this time of year to help your plants thrive.
The warmer days mean that how you water and position plants will need to change from the winter months.
You should aim to gradually increase how much water you give your plants now into summer, plant expert and founder and CEO of TN Nursery, Tammy Sons, explained.
An expert shared guidance on houseplants
GETTYThe pro shared how to check your soil to discover if it needs more water or not.
She told GB News: "My many years of plant care experience show that spring and summer houseplant maintenance requires adjustments for extended daylight and rapid growth.
"During early spring, I reduce watering and then increase it gradually according to light intensity, but only when the soil appears dry at a depth of two inches.
"To foster their rapid development, I provide my plants with diluted liquid fertiliser once a month."
Many plants will also benefit from being rotated once a week, as this will allow more even growth. Tammy added: "A weekly rotation of the plants prevents uneven growth caused by the more intense sunlight."
Houseplants can start to wilt or even die as the weather changes, so the plant expert recommended some varieties that are easier to look after.
She continued: "Pothos, along with snake plants and calatheas, stand out as my preferred houseplants during this period because they tolerate mistakes well while maintaining a beautiful fullness in warm and humid conditions.
"Monitor your houseplants for stress symptoms, including leaf scorch and drooping, when placing them near sunlit windows.
