Nothing screams Christmas like cranberry sauce, but not everyone is a fan of the festive staple

Tesco's festive sandwich range has sparked a wave of complaints from shoppers who are sick and tired of cranberry sauce.

The supermarket's Christmas line-up has left many customers frustrated, with social media users voicing their disappointment about the lack of variety.

Reacting to social media posts by Newfoodsuk, eagle-eyed shoppers noticed that four of seven sarnies contain cranberry sauce, with a fifth featuring cranberry bread.

"One day they will do one without cranberry sauce for those that don't like it," one shopper commented.

Another shopper presented the supermarket with a task: "Tesco, make a sandwich without cranberry sauce challenge."

"God no, why? By the time Christmas arrives, I’m fed up with it; it lasts months now," a third complained.

The backlash highlights how the traditional festive ingredient has become a barrier for many who want to enjoy seasonal sandwiches.

Several complaints revealed genuine frustration among customers who feel excluded from the festive offerings.

"Why does everything festive have to have cranberry sauce in it?" one person asked, while another called it their "pet hate".

Several shoppers pointed out the impact on those with dietary restrictions. "What if someone is allergic? They can try this range of festive food, it's sad," one commenter noted.

The strength of feeling was clear in multiple responses. "Stop with the damn cranberries – literally in everything. Not everyone likes them," wrote one frustrated customer.

Another explained: "I'd love to try some of the Christmas stuff, but don't because of the cranberry."

But the reaction hasn't been entirely negative. Many shoppers expressed genuine excitement about the festive range, with one declaring it "the best thing about Christmas".

"Love the festive sandwiches," seconded a cranberry enthusiast, while another said: "It's the only time I'll eat cranberry sauce."

The positive responses were just as passionate as the complaints. "I would love to try them all," said one commenter, as another simply called the announcement "amazing".

"This is the best bit about Christmas. I love it," gushed one fan, showing how deeply divided opinion remains on the cranberry question.

Cranberries have become an enduring symbol of the Christmas season, with their bright red colour making them a staple in festive decorations from wreaths to centrepieces.

Britain has followed America's lead in making cranberry sauce a Christmas dinner essential.

The sweet and tangy accompaniment to turkey originated with American Thanksgiving traditions before becoming part of our own festive meals.

This heritage explains why retailers like Tesco include cranberries so extensively in their seasonal offerings.

Yet as the backlash shows, not everyone shares the enthusiasm for this festive flavour.
