Those with an allergy or intolerance could be at risk

Unilever UK has issued a product recall for Wall's Mini Milk Vanilla Strawberry & Chocolate Ice Cream Lollies after discovering that allergen information was not displayed in English on the packaging.

The frozen treats contain milk and may also contain nuts, specifically pistachios, as well as peanuts and soya.

The labelling error poses a potential health risk to consumers with allergies or intolerances to these ingredients. The company has initiated a full recall of the affected products and is working with retailers to remove them from shelves across the country.

The Food Standards Agency has warned that the product is "a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or an allergy to nuts (pistachios) and/or an allergy to peanuts and/or soya."

The agency's alert highlights that although these allergens are present in the product, they have not been properly declared in English on the packaging.

Such an oversight could lead to serious health consequences for affected individuals who might unknowingly consume the lollies.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

The recall affects all Wall's Mini Milk Vanilla Strawberry & Chocolate Ice Cream Lollies where allergen information appears only in languages other than English.

Unilever has advised customers not to consume the product if they have relevant allergies or intolerances. The company said that it "is recalling the above product and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations".

Point of sale notices are being displayed in all retail stores selling the affected lollies. These notices explain the reason for the recall and provide instructions for customers who have purchased the product.

The Food Standards Agency has issued an allergy alert, which is standard procedure when products pose food allergy risks due to missing or incorrect labelling.

The warning has followed health food retailer Grape Tree issuing a recall for its Raw Unsalted Macadamia Nuts after tests revealed contamination with Salmonella bacteria.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued an alert yesterday warning consumers not to eat the affected products.
