A snack sold at Poundland and Dealz may contain pieces of glass, officials have warned

Just one day after Lidl recalled a pantry staple that may contain glass, Poundland has issued a similar safety alert.

The budget retailer and its Irish counterpart, Dealz, have pulled The Tasty Snack Co. Roasted and Salted Cashews from shelves due to possible contamination.

The potential hazard prompted immediate action from the discount chains, which operate hundreds of stores across Britain and Ireland.

Glass particles in food products pose serious health hazards to consumers, potentially causing injury if ingested.

The affected products are specifically 100g packets bearing batch code 56T 25255 with an expiry date of July 19, 2026.

Shoppers who have purchased these items should check their cupboards immediately, with the FSA and Poundland emphasising: "If you have bought the product, do not eat it."

Instead, customers who have purchased the affected cashews should return them to any Poundland store for a full refund, no receipt required.

Both retailers have implemented point-of-sale notices across stores selling the cashew nuts, alerting colleagues and customers to the pressing safety issue.

These notices provide detailed information about the recall and instructions for returning the potentially hazardous snacks.

The company has established dedicated customer service lines for both UK and Irish consumers seeking additional information.

UK shoppers should contact Poundland directly via customer.relations@poundland.co.uk or at 0333 234 1877 for further assistance regarding the recall. Irish shoppers can reach Poundland at 0818 930 843.

In an official statement, Poundland expressed regret over the incident: "We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The retailer assured shoppers: "The safety and confidence of our consumers and the quality of our products are at the heart of everything we do."

Poundland's fresh safety alert comes just days after Aldi, Waitrose, and more issued food recalls, sharing a mass "do not eat" warning.

The three major retailers pulled food products from shelves following the discovery of undeclared allergens that could endanger consumers.

Those with an allergy or intolerance to peanuts, milk, soya, wheat, or gluten were told to follow the typical recall process: avoid consumption, package up the product, and return it to their place of purchase.

Food safety alerts such as recalls and withdrawals should always be taken seriously to ensure customer safety.

For the most up-to-date information, consult the FSA's food alerts page.

It is also worth regularly checking major retailers' dedicated recall web pages.
