Authorities have warned that the product may pose a choking risk to consumers

British shoppers face a significant food safety alert as authorities warn of potentially dangerous products on supermarket shelves.

Lidl GB has issued an urgent recall for Harvest Basket Hash Browns after metal pieces were discovered in the product.

"This product may contain metal pieces which presents a choking hazard and makes it unsafe to eat," The Food Standards Agency warned.

The recall requires immediate action from consumers who may have purchased the affected items.

The Lidl recall affects 750g packs of Harvest Basket Hash Browns with batch code 5144L and a best-before date of May, 24 2027.

The supermarket chain confirmed the products may contain metal pieces, creating both a choking hazard and making them unsafe for consumption.

Point of sale notices are being displayed in all Lidl stores selling the affected product. The retailer has advised customers not to eat the hash browns if purchased.

Shoppers who have bought the contaminated items can return them to their nearest Lidl store for a full refund.

Customer service representatives are available on 0203 966 5566 or via customer.care@lidl.co.uk for further information.

Meanwhile, the Food Standards Agency has ordered retailers to immediately remove several varieties of Jolly Rancher sweets from sale.

The popular American confectionery has been found to contain hazardous oils that breach UK food safety regulations.

The FSA's emergency alert targets four Jolly Rancher products found to contain Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbons (MOAH) and Mineral Oil Saturated Hydrocarbons (MOSH).

These substances make the sweets "unsafe to eat" and "unlawful" under British regulations, according to the agency.

The affected products include Jolly Rancher hard candies, 'Misfits' Gummies, Jolly Rancher Hard Candy Fruity 2 in 1, and Jolly Ranchers Berry Gummies. All pack sizes and batch codes must be withdrawn from sale immediately.

The contamination poses particular concerns for young consumers who regularly enjoy these colourful American treats. Retailers who have already sold the products must implement urgent recalls to safeguard public health.

Consumers who have purchased the affected Jolly Rancher products should not eat them and are advised to dispose of them immediately. The FSA has instructed businesses to cease sales without delay and remove all stock from shelves.

For the Lidl hash browns, customers can obtain a full refund without requiring a receipt by returning the product to any store. The retailer has established dedicated customer support channels to handle enquiries about the recall.

Both incidents highlight the importance of checking product recalls regularly. The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices to alert consumers and local authorities about food safety concerns, ensuring swift action to protect public health.
