The Unearthed Sparkling Frappato is available now, but 'once it's gone, it's gone'

Aldi has added to its award-winning alcohol offering with a distinctive Sicilian sparkling wine priced at £8.49.

The Unearthed Sparkling Frappato has landed in stores across the country, coinciding with the retailer's Italian Week celebrations.

Featuring a "rare" black grape variety native to Sicily, Britons can expect a "refreshing blend of soft red fruit flavours and subtle spice".

The 75cl bottle is the latest addition to Aldi's Unearthed range, promising to "bring a touch of Mediterranean elegance to shelves".

The supermarket positions this sparkling wine as the "perfect companion" for summer gatherings, from al fresco dinners in the garden to sunlit picnics.

Stock is currently available across the UK, though the supermarket has advised shoppers to act swiftly.

Taking on Aldi's Specialbuys format, the retailer emphasised its limited nature: "Once it's gone, it's gone".

Recognition for the new tipple has come from the International Wine Challenge, where the product secured a Bronze award.

In achieving this accolade, the supermarket hopes to prove that affordability does not have to mean compromising on taste.

Aldi's Unearthed Sparkling Frappato has also received major praise from wine expert and mistress of wine, Sam Caporn.

She stated: "This fantastic addition to Aldi’s Unearthed range highlights the little-known Italian red grape variety, Frappato, which traditionally produces light, aromatic reds.

"However, this sparkling twist transforms it into a dry, fresh rosé with delicate notes of strawberry, watermelon, raspberry and cherry blossom.

"For those who prefer their bubbles on the drier side, this beautifully balanced pink fizz offers a taste of authentic Sicilian craftsmanship at an unbeatable price.

"If you're looking to try something new this summer, this limited-edition wine is not to be missed!"

Britons looking to further elevate their drinks cabinet can also enjoy the supermarket's portable sparkling wines in 20cl cans, retailing at £1.89 each.

The miniature servings come in Pinot Grigio Fizz and Pinot Grigio Blush Fizz, with the latter offering a rosé-style alternative.

The launch comes as demand for canned wine continues to surge nationally, with online searches doubling since June.

The compact format requires no corkscrew or glasses, making these drinks particularly suited to festivals, parks, and gardens where glass might be prohibited.

Aldi describes the canned range as "perfectly refreshing for any outdoor scenario". Like the Frappato, these products remain available only whilst stocks last.
