HAVE YOUR SAY: Should the Ulez scheme be scrapped?

Reform UK has pledged to end the war on motorists in London and tackle Sir Sadiq Khan's Ulez scheme after announcing its candidate for the upcoming mayoral election.

At a press conference in the capital this morning, Nigel Farage unveiled Laila Cunningham as Reform UK's candidate for the London election in 2028.

He praised Ms Cunningham, who represents Lancaster Gate in Westminster City Council, as a "vigilante mum" who was hard on crime, vowing to defeat Sir Sadiq Khan as he looks to run for a fourth time.

Laila Cunningham took direct aim at Mayor Khan in her speech, lamenting the capital for becoming more expensive and no longer being a desirable destination for young people.

Ms Cunningham slammed Sir Khan for "punishing people for driving to work", claiming that the Ultra Low Emission Zone was not about air quality, but rather "cash and control".

She said: "He knew it would hit working Londoners hardest, he just didn't care. He just wanted to be some kind of international eco warrior.

"Working people have been fined, tracked and taxed simply for driving to work. I was speaking to parents simply for taking their children to school, simply for caring for their elderly relatives."

The London Mayoral candidate noted that carers, tradespeople and small business owners were being treated like the problem for driving.

She compared this to the scourge of violent offenders, who "walk the streets and own the streets".

Ms Cunningham continued, saying: "Under my watch, that will stop. I will end the war on motorists.

"And to all you Londoners stuck in traffic, I will get London moving again."

The former prosecutor confirmed that the Ulez was making London too expensive, which has having an impact on economic growth in the capital.

Nigel Farage added that the outer Ulez was "an absolute disgrace", noting that pensioners and nurses who cannot afford a new car are being ripped off.

He said: "You see from the air reports, a year in from the outer Ulez, no significant change environmentally whatsoever.

"All about tax and control and I'm afraid what this has done is to hit the poorest and I think it's an absolute disgrace."
