Major car brands recall 700k vehicles amid serious issues including fire risk - 'Park outside and away from structures'

GB News has rounded up the most important car recalls issued over recent weeks that motorists need to know about.

Nissan

The Japanese brand has announced two major vehicle recalls impacting more than 640,000 vehicles in response to issues that could lead to accidents.

In documents filed with the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the first recall impacts 323,917 vehicles.

It states that certain 2023-2025 Rogue vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines may have a bearing failure that can cause a breach in the engine block.

This engine failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. The engine block can also allow hot oil to be discharged, heightening the risk of an engine fire.

Dealers will reprogramme the engine control module (ECM) software, inspect the diagnostic trouble codes, and test drive the vehicle for free. The oil pan may also be checked for metal debris, and the engine may be replaced if necessary.

The second recall has been issued because broken throttle body gears can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Almost 319,000 Nissan Rogue vehicles from model years 2024 and 2025 are impacted if they are equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines.

Drivers whose vehicles are impacted will have dealers inspect and replace the electronic throttle body assembly as necessary.

Mercedes-Benz

The US arm of the German company is recalling certain 2023-2024 EQB 250+, 2022-2024 EQB 300 4MATIC, and EQB 350 4MATIC vehicles, with almost 12,000 included.

The NHTSA has issued a rare "Fire Risk Warning", as the high-voltage battery may fail internally and lead to a vehicle fire while parked or driving.

It states: "Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete.

"Also, owners are advised to only charge their vehicles to a maximum of 80 per cent battery capacity until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will replace the high-voltage battery, free of charge."

A further recall has been issued by Daimler Vans USA, the American commercial vehicle arm of Mercedes-Benz, impacting 52,356 vehicles.

Certain 2020 and 2022-2023 Mercedes-Benz Metris right-hand-drive vehicles may have an air bag that does not deploy as intended.

The recall documents state that water may accumulate on the air bag control unit, preventing the air bag from opening properly, and leading to injuries in the event of a crash.

To remedy the issue, dealers will install a cover on the air bag control unit, with motorists expected to be notified of this by March 20, 2026.
