Vehicles are expected in showrooms as soon as next month

One of the most popular car brands has outlined the coming steps to re-enter the UK market, with plans for vehicles to hit showrooms within months.

Mitsubishi has confirmed the first appointments to its sales dealer network with hopes of launching the Outlander PHEV and L200 Series 7 in showrooms in May.

The Japanese brand already has 105 operational aftersales sites across the UK, with 33 new sales sites in its first wave of re-entry.

A second wave of appointments is expected soon as it plans 60 sales dealers by the end of next month in preparation for vehicles.

The UK arm of Mitsubishi confirmed previously to GB News that it ended its sales operations in October 2021.

The manufacturer has launched a dealer locator on its website, which will also allow drivers to register their interest in new vehicles.

At present, there are 22 sales dealers, 106 dealers that manage servicing and parts, and 17 locations which operate EV Service Centres.

Several long-standing Mitsubishi dealers have been included in the first wave of new locations, including Humphries and Parks in Maidstone, Adam Purves in Galashiels, Fields of Bromsgrove, and many others.

Michael Deans, managing director at Tweedmouth Service Station Ltd, said it was looking forward to the "next chapter" with the manufacturer.

He said: "The all-new Mitsubishi L200 and Outlander models look and drive fantastically well, as you would expect, and we can't wait to get them to the dealership to show them off to our loyal Mitsubishi customers.

"As a Mitsubishi dealer for now 44 years, we have lived and breathed the Mitsubishi franchise since 1982, and as a family business, we have always felt proud to represent the brand."

A handful of sites have an existing affiliation with other brands under the International Motors umbrella, including York Mitsubishi, F J Chalke in Wincanton, and Jeffries of Bacton.

Sharon Townsend, head of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, said: "We are pleased to welcome back so many familiar dealers as authorised sales points.

"The experience, enthusiasm and knowledge they bring to the network and our customers are vitally important, and it will be wonderful to see new Mitsubishi vehicles back in their dealerships."

She noted that the announcement of Mitsubishi returning to the UK market had generated "considerable interest" from customers and dealers in the new vehicles.

This was highlighted by Philip Jeffries, from Jeffries of Bacton, who said: "Jeffries' family history is rooted in Suffolk agriculture, and many of our existing customers drive 4x4 pickups and SUVs, so the new Mitsubishi L200 Series 7 and Outlander PHEV are an exciting addition to our business."
