One of the world's most popular car brands has confirmed that it will be returning to the UK market next year, after almost five years.

Mitsubishi Motors has confirmed that it will introduce new models to the UK market from the summer of 2026.

Through International Motors Ltd, a UK-based vehicle importer and distributor, new Mitsubishi models will be seen on UK roads next year.

The new models, which will be drawn from the Japanese brand's global lineup, and will feature the "latest advancements in innovation and four-wheel drive technology".

Sharon Townsend, head of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, said: "We're delighted to be introducing exciting new Mitsubishi vehicles to our loyal UK customers.

"Over the past few years, we've continued to see enthusiasm for the brand, which has strongly influenced this decision.

"By building on our trusted aftersales network and dedicated retailer partners, we are committed to providing an exceptional ownership experience."

Speaking previously to GB News, the UK division confirmed that it had ended its sales operations in October 2021.

Despite this, the aftersales network of Mitsubishi in the UK is well-established, with more than 100 sites.

The automaker, which specialises in larger 4x4 vehicles and SUVs, said a number of retailers are being appointed across the country to deal with sales and customer service.

It has not yet confirmed which vehicles will be introduced to the UK market, nor the prices or specifications. This will come "in due course".

Frank Krol, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Europe, added: "Our upcoming models represent the very best of Mitsubishi Motors' core technologies in performance, four-wheel drive, and much more.

"We look forward to a successful introduction in the UK - a market where our brand continues to have a deep emotional connection with loyal customers."

International Motors Ltd, which is leading Mitsubishi's return to the UK market, already manages the imports for six major manufacturers.

This includes established brands like Subaru and Isuzu, as well as Chinese newcomers GMW and Xpeng.

Mitsubishi exited the European market at the start of the decade to focus on more successful markets including North America and Asia.

Mitsubishi currently advertises several second-hand vehicles on its website, including the ASX, Outlander, Eclipse Cross, Mirage, L200 and the Shogun Sport.

It announced in July that it would be launching the Grandis SUV for the European market, with the model being manufactured at Renault's Valladolid plant in Spain.

This is the first Grandis model in Europe for 13 years, with drivers having the choice between the mild hybrid and hybrid EV models.

Tatsuo Nakamura, executive vice president of Mitsubishi Motors, said the brand was strengthening its European lineup following the launch of the Outlander PHEV.
