M60 chaos: Drivers face two hours of traffic delays as 'police-led incident' shuts major motorway

Motorists are being warned of two hours of traffic delays on a major route in Greater Manchester this morning following a "police-led incident".
The M60 in Greater Manchester is closed in both directions between J6 (Sale) and J8 (Stretford) as the police force deals with an incident in the area.
GMP are working on the scene and leading the response to the closure, with National Highways "unable to provide an estimated re-opening time".
However, it did note that there are delays of at least two hours in both directions, with the transport authority calling on drivers to "plan ahead".

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers are currently responding to a concern for welfare incident between J6 and J8 on the M60.
"Emergency services are in attendance and closures are currently in place."
Traffic maps from National Highways show major delays across the road network around Greater Manchester, with slow-moving and stationary traffic as far as Ashton-under-Lyne and Bolton.
Manchester's popular Bee Network fleet of buses has warned that it is experiencing delays between Sale and Carrington as a result of the police incident.

Posting on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, the Bee Network said some bus services were experiencing average delays of around 40 minutes.
It added: "Bus ticket acceptance is in place on selected Metrolink services. We're very sorry for the inconvenience caused."
National Highways has unveiled diversion routes for motorists impacted by the police incident on the M60.

- Leave the M60 clockwise at J6 by joining Carrington Spur slip road for 1.4km
- At M60 J7/A56, turn left onto A56 Cross Street southbound and follow for 2.2km
- At A56/A6144 Junction, turn right onto A6144 westbound "Harboro Road" and follow for 2.4km
- At A6144 (Carrington Lane/A6144 (Carrington Spur) junction, turn right onto A6144 (Carrington Spur) northbound and follow for 1.9km
- At A6144/M60 J8 roundabout, take first exit and rejoin the M60 clockwise at J8

At this stage, heading Anti-clockwise - please follow the Hollow Circle Symbol
- At the A6144/A56 junction, continue straight onto the A6144 eastbound and follow for approximately two miles
- At the A6144/M60 J6 Rbt, take the third exit to rejoin the M60 anti-clockwise
